The last surviving title of Monteverdi’s operatic output is a story of striking modernity, in which Virtue and Love are tainted by human ambition, passion, and power.

At the 43rd Monteverdi Festival, L’Incoronazione di Poppea returns in the interpretation of Les Arts Florissants, the historic ensemble founded by William Christie and conducted on this occasion by co-principal director Paul Agnew.

Featuring an extraordinary cast of rising stars and leading specialists in the repertoire, the production includes the remarkable participation of countertenor Maayan Licht as Nerone and the intense Benedetta Torre as Poppea.

All of this is framed by the fresh and surprising vision of director Roberto Catalano, who continues his research and experimental work with the Fondazione Teatro Ponchielli as artist-in-residence for 2026. Among the performers are the young winners and participants of the 2025 Cavalli Monteverdi Competition.
