A world premiere in modern times, a major experiment in textual reconstruction, an innovative staging: The Wedding of Thetis and Peleus is the work of Claudio Monteverdi’s favored student, Francesco Cavalli, returning to speak to the Festival audience after 387 years of waiting.

What Cavalli himself calls a theatrical celebration, 350 years after his death, comes to life on the stage of the Teatro Ponchielli with the reconstructive and interpretive expertise of Antonio Greco. The directorial project is by Petra Deidda, a young theater artist with a decade-long collaboration with Teatro alla Scala, who will restore the story’s full spectacular impact by bringing the action to the Teatro Ponchielli. Among the performers are the young winners and participants of the Cavalli and Monteverdi Competition 2025.
