With the term “gems”, it is possible to indicate different precious stones, collected in a necklace, as a metaphor for the choice of arias that will be proposed. But, in Italian, the same word also indicate the buds of a plant; if we consider this other meaning, then it becomes even more significant, because the root of these flowers is Claudio Monteverdi, the father of melodrama. Through the voice of Laurence Kilsby, starting from Monteverdi, the concert will explore other well-known and lesser-known Italian authors, to reach the other extreme giant of the long musical era that we identify with the term Baroque: Georg Friedrich Handel, who with Monteverdi has in common the perfect painting of characters in music, in an unmistakable trait.
