Like a vivid Platonic phantom that ‘draws the images of things in the soul’, Love insinuates itself into nature and makes it come alive, fixes itself in the form of the Beloved in the eyes of the Lover, manifests itself in expectation, fear and longing.
Immersed in the small chamber of a 17th-century court, RossoPorpora sings the passions of Love through the music of Claudio Monteverdi and the words of poets such as Tasso, Guarini, Marino and Chiabrera. He recounts their skirmishes and appeasements, like dewy flowers, like amorous cheeks, like elusive nymphs and sorrowful shepherds. The sweetest of battles, fought with the weapons of music, poetry and L’Arte di ben baciar.
