Estrio meets Mademoiselle Boulanger, XX Century example of Motherhood and Teaching
music by L. Boulanger, G. Gershwin/J. Heifetz, A. Piazzolla, N. Boulanger, L.Bernstein
Description
Nadia Boulanger and her sister Lili, in different ways, influenced the European musical language. Lili, pianist and composer, with his tragic and premature death, unintentionally pushed Nadia toward an academic career. Nadia carried out a decisive influence on the musical life of the Twentieth Century. She was a pupil of Gabriel Fauré, the assistant of Paul Dukas, but also a pianist, conductor, musicologist and pedagogue. She put together etiquette and an open mind, leaving his footprint on several generations of composers: Leonard Bernstein, Astor Piazzolla, Aaron Copland, Elliot Carter, Pierre Boulez, Daniel Barenboim, Philip Glass, Quincy Jones and many others. This program is a homage to the formidable personality of Nadia Boulanger and her influence on her pupils, that always called her “Mademoiselle”.
