Maurizio Baglini performs The Köln concert
Description
Maurizio Baglini, piano
Program
The Köln Concert, Keith Jarrett
A concert without stalls, with the audience distributed across the boxes and the piano placed in the centre of the space usually reserved for spectators.
On Friday, September 12th, at 8:30 pm, pianist Maurizio Baglini will perform Keith Jarrett’s The Köln Concert – a rarely heard live masterpiece – in the newly renovated Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, fifty years after its legendary premiere. On January 24, 1975, in Cologne, Jarrett found himself faced with a battered piano and extreme exhaustion, ready to cancel the scheduled concert. He decided at the last minute to play anyway, and from that improvisation was born the best-selling solo piano jazz album of all time.
Now as then, the context becomes an integral part of the musical experience. Through the “La bellezza si rinnova” (“Beauty is Renewed”) project, Ponchielli’s theatre technical intervention becomes an opportunity for collective participation, intertwining history, sustainability, and the circular economy. The initiative invites the city to contribute to the renovations in the auditorium and to give new life to the abandoned seats, repurposing them for private spaces, associations, and social projects. Furthermore, the construction site transforms the theatre into the protagonist of a sound narrative in which acoustic perception and the interaction between musician and audience take on a new dimension.
