Cremona, 08 June- The President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella delivered to the A. Ponchielli Theatre General and Artistic director Andrea Cigni the Quirinale’s medal for the 40th edition of the “Monteverdi Festival”, which will inaugurate on 16 June in Cremona.
The emissary medal of the Head of State is an acknowledgement that is assigned to initiatives that have cultural or scientific relevance, together with the good omen for the initiative and the warmest regards from the Quirinale Palace.
“It’s an illustrious acknowledgement – tells Cigni – for the most important baroque music review in Italy. With concerts held by the biggest name and the staging of the Opera L’incoronazione di Poppea, the 2023 edition of the Monteverdi Festival promise to be a unique occasion to discover and rediscover the art of the great Cremona’s composer Monteverdi, father of the opera and, more in general, the wealth of the music of the sixteenth/seventeenth-century”.

The delegation medal of the Head of State, in bronze, has been coined by the Italian Mint portraits the Italia Turrita: a portrait based on an ancient coin. On the front “Il Presidente della Repubblica Italiana (The President of the Italian Republic” and the signature of President Sergio Mattarella. On the back, Quirinale Palace: a perspective from the Palazzina Gregoriana del Cortile d’Onore.

Appointment with Monteverdi Festival on 16 June, at 20.00 with the Opera opening night, and on 14 June with the inauguration of Visual Mapping dedicated to Monteverdi.
