ROMEO E GIULIETTA
Sous la présidence de SAR la princesse de Hanovre
choreography and artistic direction Jean-Christophe Maillot
from William Shakespeare
music Sergej Prokof’ev

Description
From a choreographic view, Maillot’s work disrupts the codes of classical dance in its most traditional aspects, while simultaneously preserving its momentum, energy, and timeless grace. Shakespeare’s tragedy is interpreted not as a social conflict or a clan-based struggle governed by a code of honor, but as a fortuitous drama that leads to the death of two young people more captivated by the games of love than by those of hate.
Romeo and Juliet is a cornerstone of Jean-Christophe Maillot’s repertoire: a classical vocabulary updated through contemporary storytelling, always at the crossroads of multiple artistic disciplines.
