Description
Published in 1975, La vita davanti a sé by Romain Gary is the story of Momò, a 10 years old Arabian boy who lives in the multiethnic quarter of Belleville in Madame Rosa’s room and board, an ancient Jewish who was a prostitute and who makes ends meet taking care of illegitimate children of her younger colleagues. A heart-warming and current novel that tells about messy lives that go backwards but also of an unlikely love story saved by grace.
Silvio Orlando leads us through this book’s pages with the lighthearted and ironic Momò, plainness becoming that kid in his drama.
Romain Gary’s genius anticipated, without easy solutions, the theme of cohabitation of different cultures and religions. The word suddenly becomes little, claustrophobic and finds a sense only in the desperate hug against everyone and everything of Momò and Madame Rosa in those last words: “one must love”.
