SALVE REGINA
Messa, mottetti e Magnificat di T. Luis de Victoria
Novità Festival
Born in Castille, Tomás Luis de Victoria worked in Italy, mainly in Rome, and probably represents the most important composer of Spanish Renaissance. Among his sacred works, composed between the XVth and XVIth century, the Salve Regina mass (Rome, 1592) stands out: it marvellously combines the Palestrina Roman style and the expressive character typical of the Spanish tradition. The concert, including also motets dedicated to the Virgin and the superb Magnificat for 8 voices, is performed by La Grande Chapelle di Albert Recasens, invited for the first time at the Festival. Upon its foundation in 2005, fired by a desire to spread Spain’s musical heritage, the ensemble has been awarded many prizes for the artistic rigour and the original programmes.
