After the success of previous editions, the appointment with Casa Ponchielli is renewed, a cycle of three concerts to pay homage to the Cremonese composer Amilcare Ponchielli. The proposals, created with the support of EcoMembrane, will be held in the Theater on September 19th and 22nd, while the concert on September 20th will be in a chamber format “on stage”.
A peculiarity of this edition will be the grand opening entrusted to the Italian Army Band directed by Maj. Maj. Filippo Cangiamila who will perform rare pages of Amilcare Ponchielli’s band music repertoire. The concert in question comes at the end of the PONCHIELLI 2024 project promoted by the Permanent Table of the Italian Band Federations: the Italian Army Band directed by Major Filippo Cangiamila will perform a modern preview, more than 100 years later, of part of the production band music that the project recovered following a process of research, digitization, transcription and adaptation of the scores kept in the State Library of Cremona. The concert is the result of work involving many local institutions.
The second concert, entirely focused on chamber repertoire for winds, will give the opportunity to listen to rarely performed pieces such as the Quartet for winds and piano, the two original pieces for oboe and piano (Piccolo Concertino and Capriccio) and the very famous Convegno for two clarinets and piano.
Like last year, the festival will end with a lyrical-symphonic concert for soloists, choir and orchestra and will feature the soprano Federica Zanello, the tenor Mariano Sanfilippo and the bass Marco Granata accompanied by the Coro Polifonico Cremonese and the Bazzini Consort orchestra, all directed by Maestro Federico Mantovani. The concert will be a precious opportunity to listen to unpublished or first modern pieces such as the Sinfonia in La Magg, the Qui tollis and the Quoniam, the Cantata a Gregorio VII and the Canata Francesca da Rimini.
The Ponchielli Festival will be completed with the performance of the concert “Homage to Amilcare Ponchielli”, on Saturday 21 September at 9.00 pm at the Ponchielliano Civic Museum in Paderno Ponchielli and will feature the baritone Valentino Salvini accompanied on the piano by Cristiano Paluan in a concert which will see performances music by Ponchielli, Verdi and Puccini.
